They say you never forget your first. For us, Vritomartis Naturist Resort was exactly that – our first naturist resort – and the saying couldn’t be more true. Not only have we never forgotten it, but we’ve also been back multiple times since. It’s a truly unique place with something for everyone. While we originally booked because of its beach, it’s the service, amenities, and stunning surroundings that keep us coming back.

We were hosted by the resort in July 2025. Even though it seemed close to fully booked, we never felt crowded. The layout is designed in a way that lets you either enjoy a quiet, private stay or easily socialize with other guests.
This was our first visit with our infant son, and he had a great time! The staff made sure we were comfortable, setting up a high chair in the dining area and a cozy bed just for him in our room.
We spent most of our time by the pool and loved having the choice between grass or pavement for setting up. The resort recently introduced poolside food and drink service – a dangerously convenient addition that makes it far too easy to fully relax. Activities run throughout the day in and around the pool area, including yoga, body painting, aqua exercise, and boules. The poolside serving and entertainment staff were fun, friendly, and clearly loved their jobs – it made all the difference.

The resort itself is a beautiful, open-concept building with lots of comfortable seating both in the sun and in the shade. There are several room types, but all of them include some kind of outdoor space. Rooms come with a refrigerator, but since both breakfast and dinner are included, there’s little need for anything more.
Filaki Beach is a major draw. While it’s not exclusive to Vritomartis guests, the vast majority of beachgoers come from the resort. A regular shuttle runs in the morning and again in the late afternoon, or you can walk – it’s about 15 minutes. Just be sure to wear a hat and bring water, as the walk is completely exposed to the sun.

At the beach, there’s a taverna run by the resort where you can rent loungers and umbrellas, and order food and drinks. We highly recommend staying for lunch because the traditional Greek fare is excellent. There’s also a bathroom with showers for rinsing off. The beach itself is rocky, so don’t forget your water shoes. The water is crystal clear and calm, perfect for floating, swimming, or just dipping in to cool off.
Back at the resort, the included buffet breakfasts and dinners are consistently excellent. The menu changes daily and offers a wide range of traditional Cretan and Greek dishes. Evening entertainment varies each night, and the atmosphere makes it easy to strike up conversations with fellow guests – no awkwardness required.

If you’re looking to explore beyond the resort, book an excursion early because they tend to fill up fast. Some are boat trips to other naturist beaches and coastal towns, while others are vehicle tours with hiking stops. We especially enjoyed the west coast boat tour, which stopped at a series of small naturist beaches and the beautiful village of Loutro for lunch and shopping.
Hora Sfakion, the nearby town, is only a five-minute drive away and accessible via the resort’s shuttle. It’s worth a visit for its waterfront tavernas, cafes, and shops selling local goods.
There’s also a spa on site, which we recommend booking as soon as you arrive as spots can be hard to come by.
This resort is an ideal introduction to naturism – friendly, respectful, and unintimidating. Clothing is required in the dining and reception areas, but the beach and pool areas are strictly naturist.
Vritomartis may have been our first naturist resort, but it won’t be our last – and it will always be one of the most special.
