Nude Beach Map. Visited 2024
Little Congwong Beach might be the most underrated nude beach in Sydney! Unlike the well-known Cobblers Beach or Lady Bay Beach, you won’t find Little Congwong in the world-famous Sydney Harbour; you need to head a little further south past Sydney Airport. However, it is worth the journey and much closer to the airport if you’re looking for a quick beach stop between flights (seriously, why not?).
We were a little put off by the ‘no nudity’ sign at the main Congwong Beach entrance and weren’t quite sure if there would be any naked people here, given it was a weekday and not that hot. But our fears were allayed after the short 10-minute walk when we spotted around a dozen people tanning in the buff. Reviews online vary, with some saying it is an amazing nude beach and others telling tourists not to come here because no one is nude. So be advised that officially it isn’t a nude beach, but in our experience, it definitely is (unofficially official, of course). Apparently, the city council doesn’t mind the nudity at the beach as long as everyone behaves—which is standard nude beach etiquette anyway!

The crowd at Little Congwong was almost entirely single males, but the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. We know from chatting with other regulars that the beach crowd can vary from day to day and isn’t an (almost) male-exclusive nude beach like Sydney’s Obelisk Beach. There were people of varying ages here, and despite the cove being small, it felt like there was enough room for everyone. Regulars seemed to find spots to tan on the rocks at the far end of the beach; we even watched someone take a shortcut and swim with their bag on their head. Brave! The water is stunning here, and the white sand is soft and fluffy—it doesn’t get much better than this in Sydney.
While Little Congwong Beach is surrounded by bushland and La Perouse National Park, the outlook to Botany Bay is peaceful, but the quiet is interrupted by planes taking off from the busy Sydney Airport. We didn’t mind watching the giant Airbus A380s and Boeing 787s take off, but if you’re not a plane nerd, you might not appreciate it! The beach is near the main Cape Banks coastal walk, so on weekends, you’ll likely share part of the trail with bushwalkers who are doing the coastal loop. For part of the trail, you need to cross a very small creek in the sand—nothing major, but definitely worth taking your shoes off for this part. The trail is along mostly level ground/sand and takes around 10 mins, definitely one of the easier hikes to a nude beach in Sydney!
Overall, Little Congwong Beach is recommended and worth the trek. It might not be your ideal spot for a first-time nude beach experience, given the fact it is not an official nude beach, but the location and vibe are definitely welcoming. Unfortunately, there isn’t much accommodation down this part of Sydney if you’re visiting, but as a day trip, it is recommended. Especially if you’ve already visited our favorite Sydney beach—Cobblers. Little Congwong beach offers a unique experience with a local flavor. Bring food and drinks because there is nothing nearby.

Getting There
Little Congwong Beach, nestled in Sydney's south, is conveniently located just a 20-minute drive from Sydney Airport on a good day. From the designated car park, it's a short 600 metre stroll to the beach. Begin on the concrete walkway leading down to Congwong Beach, traverse the sand to the beach's end, and then cross the small creek (which may be present after rainfall). Follow the trail up and over the headland to reach the more secluded nude beach. The walk is fairly easy and rewards you with beautiful vistas, enhancing the overall experience. Although some regulars opt for a quicker route by climbing over the rocks to reach the beach, this shortcut is not recommended for first-timers.
By Car
From the CBD, Little Congwong is approximately a 35-minute drive, and even closer from the airport, at about 20 minutes. Drive south towards La Perouse, the entry point to Little Congwong. You'll find free parking available near Congwong Beach at the terminus of Anzac Parade. Keep in mind that parking spots are highly sought after, especially on weekends and public holidays, so getting there early is wise to ensure you find a place.
By Public Transport
La Perouse is well-serviced by several bus routes, with stops conveniently located opposite the trail leading to Congwong Beach. The 390x express from Bondi Junction is the quickest public transport option to the beach. This bus can be easily accessed from both the airport and the CBD. However, it's important to allow ample travel time as the journey by bus can take nearly an hour from the city center, and potentially longer depending on the time and day.
1 Reviews on “Little Congwong Beach”
I have only ever travelled by car to Little Congwong. If you get there early, say, 9am, you’ll be in the shadows, but you’ll get a close parking spot, if you arrive at 11am, the sun will be shining on yellow sand but you may have to park further away, but even that’s not the end of the world. There is parking in the Kama National Park too and a trail down to the beach. Boats pull up there too. If you’re female, for some reason they all arrive later. I have no idea why. The crowd can be quite diverse and if you are like me and like your nude beaches crowded, this is the place. The water is always calm and good for swimming.
There are bins at the start of the (short) walking trail but no other facilities.
Here’s a tip, late afternoon weekdays is the best. Lots of people make the most of the last rays of sun. A fabulous way to end your workday.
